A RECYCLING scheme has seen residents donate 20,000 tins of unwanted paint to be poured back into community projects across the UK.

Stacks of old paint and tins were left at the Crown Decorating Centre, at the Horspath Trading Estate, as householders did their bit for the environment last month.

Hundreds of cans were collected at the Oxford depot and the 20,000 nationally more than doubled last year's total.

The company's sustainability manager Mark Lloyd thanked the people of Oxford for their help.

He said: "We are delighted that local people have once again taken the trouble to bring their unwanted paint into the local store and contributed to a real recycling success story.

"I want to thank the people in Oxford for helping their local Crown Decorating Centre on Horspath Trading Estate to achieve record recycling results.

"As a thank you, everyone who supported the scheme received a 20 per cent discount voucher to be spent in store by the end of the year."

Now in its fourth year, the Kick Out The Can campaign has collected more than 30,000 thousand tins of unwanted paint across the UK since its launch in 2013.

The scheme has seen more than 2,000 litres of paint given to scores of deserving schemes across the UK.
