ART and antique dealers from across the UK exhibited at a new Burford School Antiques Fair over the weekend.

Based just a few minutes from Burford town centre, the first-time fair at the Cheltenham Road school featured a wide variety of fine quality art, antiques, collectors items and vintage furnishing pieces, with prices from just £25 to £25,000.

Organiser Caroline Penman, of Penman Fairs, said: "We had something for everyone. And it's such a good time to buy. There was a charming pair of early 19th century hallmarked silver sugar tongs, ideal for using for ice cubes, at £30."

As well as dealers from across the country, the fair attracted a great deal of attention from local antiques experts.

Antique furniture specialists W.R.Harvey from Witney attended the event, showing a rare George III tavern clock made by Henry Overall from Ramsey.

Sometimes mistakenly known as Act of Parliament clocks, organisers priced the highly sought-after piece as £25,000.

W.R.Harvey also offered plenty of furniture and paintings at more affordable prices including a set of four copper and brass measuring jugs, made circa 1850 at £135.

Also popular were a pair of early Edwardian candlesticks by James Dixon & Sons, measuring 22cms tall, on the stand of Worcester dealer Antiquarium, priced at £2,750.

Pottery, porcelain and glass also starred at the event, with a collection of Parian ware busts of classical and historic figures, from Drove House Antiques. An early Copeland Parian figure of the Dice Player dating from around 1851 at £450 attracted a lot of attention, experts said.

There were also watercolour paintings, jewellery and glasswork from various dealers on display and for sale.

The event, organised by Penman Fairs, was held on July 30 and 31 at Burford School at £3.50 per person admission.
