A ZOO in Brize Norton raised more than £5,000 for a West African crocodile conservation charity.

Crocodiles of the World hosted CrocFest UK in October, the country's first festival to raise vital funds for crocodile conservation.

The event raised more than £5,000 for Project Mecistops, which is dedicated to the conservation of slender snouted crocodiles, which are listed as critically endangered in the wild.

Matthew Shirley from the project visited the zoo from West Africa to meet with Crocodiles of the World founder and director Shaun Foggett.

Mr Shirley said: "Funds from events like CrocFest UK ensure the sustainability of our project in West Africa and help to save slender-snouted crocodiles.

"These funds go towards our daily operating costs and thanks to contributions like this and the hard work of the team the future for this species is looking really encouraging."

Mr Foggett extended his thanks to everybody who had made the donation possible by supporting the event.

He said: "We just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported CrocFest UK.

"We are dedicated to conservation and it's great to be able to support projects directly in the countries where they are directly making a difference and helping to protect these amazing animals."
