FUNDRAISERS will have the chance to run around Blenheim Palace in aid of a charity of their choice next month as a popular annual fun run returns.

The Blenheim 7k Fun Run allows runners a choice of charity and a choice of distance, with wheelchair and buggy races also part of the schedule.

So far, large teams supporting Sobell House Hospice, Helen and Douglas House Hospice and Cancer Research have signed up with many more charities set to be represented on the day.

More than 800 runners are expected on the start line on May 7 and there is still plenty of time to sign up for a charity big or small.

Kevin Game, who works as a fundraiser for Sobell House hospice, and has run the event in the past, said: "It's great to have Sobell House as the charity for the Blenheim 7k again.

"The event is a staple on our calendar each year and it's a great opportunity for our supporters to get active and sporty in aid of the hospice."

He added: "We already have a big team signed up and we are looking forward to their efforts helping us with our plans to expand our service over the next few years to enable us to support even more people throughout Oxfordshire."

Aside from the 7km main event, there is also a one mile event for under 15s and a four mile race for wheelchairs and buggies.

The Spinal Injuries Association, mental health charity Restore, the Nasio Trust - a local charity improving the lives of young people in some of Kenya's poorest areas - and cancer charity Myeloma will also all be supported by runners.

The Alzheimer's Society will also be fundraised for, by the event's sponsors, Oxford-based law firm Freeth Solicitors.

Managing partner, Sarah Foster, said: "We are proud to be the headline sponsor of the Blenheim 7k fun run for the fifth year running.

"It's a real family affair and raises much needed funds for many local and national charities, including Helen and Douglas House, Sobell House, Myeloma UK and SIA to name a few.

"We will also have staff running on the day in support of our firm's nominated charity, the Alzheimer's Society."

The one mile race will begin at 11am, with the 7k and four mile races starting at 11.30am.

Stagecoach buses S3 and 7 will run on the day from Oxford stopping outside the palace gates.
