RESIDENTS can comment on plans to shake up speed limits along a stretch of the Southern Bypass in Oxford.

Oxfordshire County Council has launched consultation on amended proposals to reduce the limit on slip roads joining the key road near Kennington.

The council approved plans to reduce the speed from 70mph to 50mph between Hinksey Hill Interchange and Heyford Hill Roundabout at a meeting on June 29, following initial consultation in April.

But it decided to relaunch consultation on speed limit changes to adjoining roads, after receiving opposition.

It is now seeking opinions on plans to introduce a 40mph speed on the slip road past Redbridge Hollow to Old Abingdon Road, and on the stretch of Kennington Road between Old Abingdon Road and the bridge into Kennington.

The council lists the current speed limits on the roads as ‘unrestricted’.

It also wants to introduce a 50mph limit on the slip road from Kennington Road onto Southern Bypass, which is also currently unrestricted.

The council said the changes were ‘proposed for consistency and road safety purposes’.

Consultation opened on Thursday and closes on August 11. To comment visit consultations.oxfordshire.gov.uk.
