IT was a good day all around for the city’s independent schools yesterday who posted an impressive set of results.

Oxford High School recorded its highest ever number of A*s and celebrated 100 per cent A*-C grades, as did Headington School.

Not to be outdone, the boys performed strongly as well with Magdalen College School, once again, the pick of the bunch.

Of the 99 MCS boys sitting GCSEs, 28 scored straight A*s and 75 per cent of the pupils scored 8A*s or higher.

Abingdon School also hit 100 per cent A*-C.

Many of the private schools have not yet transitioned to the new 1-9 grading system as they sit IGCSEs instead.

More than 75 per cent of all grades at Oxford High School were A*s - the highest ever at the school.

Acting head, Dr Peter Secker, said: “We are all elated for our committed and hard-working Year 11 students – the future is very bright for these remarkable young women.”

The girls at Rye St Antony were also celebrating with 85 per cent of pupils achieving grade 4 or higher or A*-C in English and maths.

St Edward’s School refused to send its results to the Oxford Mail stating an ‘ideological objection’ to league tables.
