CARE home residents are warming up for a party by reliving their youth and dressing up as figures from yesteryear.

Cumnor Hill House residents and staff will be taking to the dancefloor with nostalgic tunes at an event on Sunday.

Joy Bowyer, who lives at the home, took the theme and ran with it as she dressed up as a young Queen Elizabeth for the day and the home’s clinical manager Sara-Jayne Harvey donned a 40s matron outfit.

The luxury home’s activities and events manager Cherie Moss said: “We wanted a garden party for the residents and community so we made a list of what we thought we would want to do. The residents loved the 1940s, it’s a fantastic era. They loved getting into the swing of things.

“There are going to be stalls, games and it’ll be a real family day out.”

She has prepared the day by snapping up clothes from the time, even spending some of a recent holiday doing so, by shopping in shops and online.

Colleague Claire Wrackham dressed up in an traditional blue and white swimming costume.

The event will have a special guest impersonating a famous British figure from the time – but people will have to find out who it is by visiting the fun day.

The home will also have a guest speaker giving facts about the 1940s on the day.

Residents regularly listen to popular favourites from the time, including The White Cliffs of Dover and We’ll Meet Again, both made famous by Vera Lynn.

The party is free to attend on Breeches End, which will be held from 12pm until 5pm.

All proceeds from sales at the event will be split between Breast Cancer Care and the Care Workers Charity.
