OXFORD United fans have backed Karl Robinson to succeed as the club's new manager after a long and frustrating hiring process.

The U's 59-day hunt to replace Pep Clotet at the helm finally came to an end on Thursday with the unveiling of the former Charlton boss.

During the long managerless spell endless rumours linked a plethora of big names, such as Sven Goran Eriksson, Patrick Kluivert, Frank Lampard and Sol Campbell.

Comment from United owner Tiger that the new manager would have the 'wow factor' only fuelled the speculation.

While some fans deemed the appointment of Robinson an anticlimax, many backed the former MK Dons boss to succeed.

Yellows fan Johnny Lyle said most fans he had heard from were fully behind the new man in charge.

He said: "I'm delighted that we are almost completely behind Karl Robinson.

"After the farce of so called 'wow' managers, I'm glad we have one who built his name by developing young talent, rather than buying old journeyman pros.

"Good luck we have your back."

Fans' group The Yellow Army said: "Welcome to Oxford United Karl Robinson.

"Good luck - the Yellow Army will be right behind you and the team starting at Pompey tomorrow."

As the club's hunt for a manager meandered on through the entire month of February and most of March, more names were banded around, including Jaap Stam, Steve McClaren, former manager Michael Appleton and Craig Bellamy who said he had agreed terms before the arrival of Tiger.

U's fan Scott Blackwell said he wanted Bellamy but was happy with Robinson.

He said: "Not the 'wow factor' but rather him than Jaap Stam - out of all mentioned I wanted Bellamy but I''ll back who ever is in charge.

"Same sort of feeling when Appleton was appointed and look how that turned out."
