Sir - With reference to Simon Jefferson's letter (November 2) entitled 'blatant discrimination over parking permits', I concur heartily with his observations.

He is, in fact, more fortunate than me as a Summertown resident. I was informed by the arrogant official at the parking shop in Speedwell Street that I was allowed only one permit. Not only is the county council oblivious to the wishes of the residents who have made it plain that they don't want the scheme here, in effect they are dictating about the ownership of vehicles.

One hopes that this bureaucratic nonsense is extended to places outside the city boundary and perhaps the recipients there will be able to vote these charlatans out of office.
