I read with amazement and disgust Lord Mayor John Tanner's comments and the fact he was to lay a wreath on Remembrance Day (Oxford Mail, November 7).
How can a socialist atheist do this? His party and the illegal war in Iraq are the cause of many deaths and many more to come. This is the man who favours entry into Europe. Has he forgotten all those who died to free Europe?
Maybe the eats and drinks in the Town Hall after the service are the real reason, at taxpayers' expense. If we replaced troops with politicians, wars would soon end and MPs would be busy chasing up those who were awol.
