BROWNIES in Bicester are getting a lesson in how to keep burglars at bay from Thames Valley Police.

The girls from the 1st Bicester St Mary's pack are studying for their crime prevention badge. A key part of the syllabus is to "explain how to protect your home from burglary".

So, local crime reduction advisor David Campbell is taking them through the dos and don'ts of keeping their homes safe and secure.

He says: "It's a time of year when opportunist burglars are out and about during the day and the evening searching for unlocked doors and open windows.

"So I'll be stressing this point, confident in the knowledge that they will go home and pass the advice on to the rest of the family.

"It's a great opportunity to get young people involved in thinking about crime prevention at an early stage. We are also discussing personal safety, property-marking, criminal damage and Neighbourhood Watch."
