POLICE today appealed for witnesses after a woman was killed in a collision between two cars on the A40 near Oxford.

At about 11pm last night, a gold-coloured Fiat Punto and a green Peugeot 106 collided on the A40 westbound towards Oxford after the Wheatley Services junction.

The 24-year-old driver of the Punto was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

A white Transit van and a white articulated livestock carrier, which was empty, then collided with initial crash in the moments after it occurred. The drivers were unharmed while the woman driving the Peugeot was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital with minor injuries.

The road was closed until 6am today.
