Supermarket chain Aldi today said it would appeal against refusal of its plan for a new shop in Oxford.

The German company wanted to build the store on a site off Botley Road.

But Oxford City Council's central, south and west area committee last week rejected the plan, because of concerns that it could cause flooding problems in the area.

However, the firm has confirmed it will appeal against the decision.

Richard Williams, Aldi's property director, said: "We are disappointed at the decision taken at the planning committee meeting.

"Aldi is currently appealing against the decision and is expecting a date to be agreed early next year."
