Supermarket giant Aldi has said it will appeal against a decision to turn down its plan to build a new store off Botley Road, Oxford.

The German chain wanted to open on land close to the Toys 'R Us store.

But Oxford City Council's central, south and west area committee last week rejected the plans because of flooding fears.

The decision was based on concerns raised by the Environment Agency.

However, the firm has now confirmed it would appeal against the decision.

Richard Williams, property director for Aldi Swindon, said: "We're disappointed at the decision taken at the planning committee meeting.

"Aldi is currently appealing the decision and are expecting a date to be agreed early next year."
