Visitors to a popular interactive museum installation can hold court for a day and enjoy a royally good laugh when they ascend the amazing Talking Throne at Oxford's Story Museum.

Visitors put on a costume and select a character before sitting on the throne to be announced with a royal fanfare.

The Throne, one of the most popular exhibits at the museum before its redevelopment in 2020, has had a makeover to make it fully wheelchair accessible and is now available to go on tour.

It will be at the museum only until January 28.

Sophie Hiscock, director of communications at the museum, said: "Everyone deserves the chance to feel like royalty now and again, and January can often feel like such a bleak month, so we wanted to give our visitors something to smile about.

"It’s been an absolute delight to have the Talking Throne back with us this month, particularly now that wheelchair users can also enjoy the experience of processing along the red carpet and being announced.

"And we’re looking forward to exploring opportunities for sending the Throne out into the world so that even more people can enjoy the experience.’

The Talking Throne experience is included in a ticket to the Museum Galleries up until  January 28, 2024. Tickets cost £12 per person, under 1s are free.
