It is disappointing that our pubs along Marston Road, Oxford, are disappearing.
The Plasterers Arms was turned into flats. Tesco has bought The Friar. Now we hear that The Somerset is being converted into a Chinese restaurant, with only the small bar retained for drinkers.
The large bar is regularly used for pool and darts and there is a big garden for Aunt Sally.
Musicians from Jericho regularly perform here - there is a shortage of venues across the city. These activities are part of our traditional way of life. Why should we lose them?
All we seem to be left with along Marston Road are grotty bus shelters (except the one at Jack Straw's Lane, which has no seats), a grotty-looking Scout hall and a bumpy cycle track!
