Hundreds of children are getting ready for play time.

Oxfordshire's Play Day at Florence Park, in Cowley, Oxford, is aimed at giving youngsters more opportunities to enjoy the simple pleasure of play.

The event is being funded by Oxfordshire County Council and organised by Oxford City Council, which runs the park.

Pictured launching the event is Nathan Sinclair, 16, the North and West Oxfordshire Member of the Youth Parliament, back, with members of the 'supergroup' who chose activities for the event, from left, Jamie Wassell, 11; Zach Marshall, nine; Shannon Marsden, eight; Hanna Smedley, 16, and Anisha Omar, 12.

The county council has recently been awarded Playbuilder status, which will see it receive £1m from the Government to spend on innovative play projects in the county over the next three years.

The Play Day starts at noon on Wednesday, August 6. Among the activites are a giant play den, climbing wall, clay modelling and face-painting.

Voluntary play groups from all over the county will be offering play activities and the park will be decorated with banners created by children.
