Flooding in Oxford has caused a section of a car park at a park and ride to close along with a nearby towpath.

The new extension car park of Seacourt Park and Ride in Botley Road has been temporarily closed because of heavy flooding.

While the extension is closed, the car park has reverted to its old capacity of 794 spaces.

The towpath at Fiddler's Island towards Botley Road has also closed due to flooding.

It comes as 29 flood alerts were put in place this morning as a result of heavy rainfall.

An Oxford City Council statement said: "After the recent rainfall, flood alerts are in place for Oxford.

"We're closely monitoring the situation.

"The towpath at Fiddler's Island towards Botley Road is closed due to flooding.

"Seacourt Park and Ride extension is also temporarily closed."

The Environment Agency has warned flooding is possible on the River Thames and tributaries in the Oxford area, including areas between Wolvercote down to and including Radley and Jericho.

There are also alerts on the River Cherwell and its tributaries from Lower Heyford down to Oxford including Rousham, Enslow, Thrupp and Hampton Poyle.

The alerts include the River Evenlode from Moreton in Marsh down to Cassington and also the River Glyme at Wootton and Woodstock.

It also covers the River Ock from Watchfield to Abingdon including, Stanford in the Vale, Charney Bassett, Lyford and Garford, and also the Letcombe Brook at Wantage, Grove and East Hanney.
