There is risk of flooding in Oxford as heavy rainfall continues in the already saturated city.

The path between Folly Bridge and Donnington Bridge has already been closed due to flooding, Oxford City Council has announced.

Continued heavy rain, which is set to continue today (Thursday, February 22), has started to flood some other river and canal side paths, making them hazardous to use.

The city council has urged residents to look out for signs indicating that paths are closed and do not use flooded paths and to check the severe weather page on its website.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning yesterday, advising that heavy rain and wind could lead to flooding and disruption through the day today.

Most areas within the warning area, including Oxfordshire, will see 10 to 15mm of rainfall, “but a few places could see 30 to 40mm with this falling onto already saturated ground.”

Continued rainfall in Oxford has also recently caused the towpath at Fiddlers Island towards Botley Road, the path west of Folly Bridge and the Seacourt Park and Ride extension to close temporarily due to flooding.
