A childminding service which has been running for more than 30 years has been rated "Good" following a visit from Ofsted inspectors.

The childminder in Littlemore, Oxford, was registered in 1992 and given the rating during an inspection on February 2.

She offers care each weekday from 8am to 6pm, all year round, for to up to six children at a time.

Inspectors found that "children are very familiar with their surroundings," where they "develop confident communication skills" and are "eager to know more".

Children's well-being is promoted, with new foods being introduced to encourage healthy eating.

Parents also receive guidance on how to enhance their children's lifestyles at home.

Children develop confident communication skills, always expressing themselves with gestures, expressions and words.

They ask open-ended questions and make thoughtful suggestions during play.

Furthermore, even "when the childminder is talking to parents, children wait patiently until their conversation has finished before talking to the childminder."

Inspectors found that "children go on regular walks to help strengthen muscles" and "they explore sand and water in the garden to experiment with textures and senses".

The childminder also "has a positive attitude towards her ongoing development" and uses support networks to improve her knowledge and practice.

Parents appreciate the support and information given to develop their children's skills and their own.

The childminder communicates clearly about areas of development being supported within the setting.
