Shocking pictures show the moment an electric car mounted the kerb and crashed into a sign in a busy shopping centre car park.

The car ploughed through undergrowth next to a public walkway at Witney’s Woolgate car park on Monday (March 4).

Eyewitness Nick Jones Moffatt said it was a 'shocking accident' with the car literally ‘wrapping itself around a lamppost’.

He said: "It was an elderly couple. I don't know if it went rogue.

"It's possible there was an issue with getting used to the regenerative braking system but people could have been killed."

Regenerative braking, where the car’s kinetic energy is turned into electricity to charge its battery, can often feel like you have just stepped on the brake pedal as soon as you stop accelerating.

"It can take some getting used to but I have the same model and have had some system issues," he said.

The Oxford Mail has contacted MG.
