A devastating kitchen fire at an Oxfordshire home has completely destroyed the hob cooker inside.

The incident happened shortly after 2:15pm on Friday, March 8, when crews from Witney Fire Station Charlbury Fire Station and Rewley Road Fire Station were to a Witney house.

Reports of a kitchen fire at the property in the Deer Park estate due to an unattended cooker hob being left on had been made to firefighters.

Upon arrival, crews found the occupier tackling the fire themselves.

Although this had prevented further damage to the property, the resident had suffered minor burns to the hands as well as slight smoke inhalation.

Photographs of the hob cooker show it completely ravaged by the flames with the ceiling as well as neighbouring cupboards also heavily damaged.

As well as the hob cooker, a toaster can also be seen with heavy damage from the fire, turning it almost completely black.

A spokesperson for Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We know people want to protect their property but we cannot stress the dangers that puts people in, smoke from fires contain many toxic chemicals, a few lungfuls and it can render you unconscious. A few more and it’s death!
