Banbury United presented a £5,515 cheque to a campaign which fights for the retention of hospital services in the town on Saturday.

The donation was made to the Keep the Horton General campaign after the side's home match against King’s Lynn.

The money came from the Banbury United Community Lottery which, since its inception, has raised more £22,000 for the campaign.

Keith Strangwood, chairman of Keep the Horton General said: "It is as important now as it has ever been to show the strength of local feeling towards returning consultant-led obstetrics to the Horton General Hospital.

"The generosity and support of Banbury United is so valued by our campaign group.

"We had a very enjoyable day watching the football."

Every Friday at 3pm, three numbers are drawn in the Banbury United Community Club Lottery.

Entry costs £1 per ticket and if the three numbers are correctly predicted, individuals can win up to 50 per cent of the lottery fund, after expenses and a 10 per cent donation to the campaign.

All proceeds beyond this and expenses go to Banbury United Community Football Club.

The winning numbers are advertised on the Banbury United website and the club’s Facebook and Twitter pages.

For those interested in participating, information regarding the lottery is accessible on the official Banbury United website.
