Students are being invited by a Bicester organisation to take part in a motorsport event.

Motorsport UK is organising StreetCar - an initiative aimed at promoting the nation's grassroots motorsport scene.

Students can take part using their own cars in a range of 12 low-cost disciplines.

StreetCar can be completed in a standard, unmodified road car, with the only requirement being a free Motorsport UK RS Clubman licence.

The disciplines are segmented into Autotest, Trials and Cross Country and Rally, and include options such as Autotest, AutoSOLO, and Targa Rally among others.

Hugh Chambers, chief executive officer at Motorsport UK, said: “StreetCar is motorsports best kept secret.

"The 12 disciplines are affordable, can be enjoyed in any legal road going car, and there are events held across the UK throughout the year.

"We strongly encourage anyone who’s been wanting to get involved in motorsport to get in touch and start their journey today.”

Liam Brotherhood, a 14-year-old driver from Cannock and District Car Club, said: "I’ve really enjoyed my first go at motorsport, and I think I’ve found a hobby for life.

"Like many of my friends I can’t wait to start driving, but competing in Autosolo gives me a chance to gain the skills I will need in a safe environment whilst having great fun.

"I’ve got to know many of the regular drivers who have been competing for years, and they have really shown me great support.”
