A campaign has been launched to raise the final £25,000 needed for a transformation project at an art gallery.

Modern Art Oxford has launched the Art Happens fundraising effort as it looks to reach £2 million to fund a transformation of the gallery’s ground and lower ground floor spaces.

Since 1965, the gallery has been a pioneering figure in the country's contemporary art scene, showcasing both established and upcoming artists.

However, the Victorian building has reached its capacity and can no longer meet demand.

The funds secured through the campaign will ensure the plans created by award-winning architect, David Kohn, are fully realised and that the gallery becomes an accessible and inviting space for everyone, irrespective of their age, background, or abilities.

Donors, in return, will have the choice of a variety of rewards, such as artist-designed merchandise, an invite to an exclusive event to commemorate the opening of the new spaces, a personalised art-making workshop, or a contemporary art tour in London with the gallery's director, Paul Hobson.

Mr Hobson said: "We are so close to realising our transformational vision for a major redesign of our ground floor public areas.

"If we raise this money, we will be able to fully equip and furnish our public spaces to enable the best possible welcome and creative offer for our diverse communities."
