A resident at MHA The Homestead in Carterton celebrated her 54th wedding anniversary with an afternoon tea.

Residents and staff at the home banded together to celebrate the occassion.

Sheila Margaret O'Dwyer and her husband, John Alphonsus O'Dwyer first met on March 26, 1968 at The Metropole Ballroom in Dublin and wed two years later in the same city.

The couple, who share children John, Tara, and Bernadette, lived in Witney and West Oxfordshire before Sheila moved into MHA The Homestead.

Due to Mrs O'Dwyer living with Alzheimer's, she needed professional care which is provided by the staff.

In honour of their anniversary, an afternoon tea was arranged within the care home, with kitchen staff preparing a spread of delicacies.

Mr O'Dwyer expressed his gratitude, highlighting the exceptional care his wife receives at the home.

He said: "The Homestead is superb from so many points of view.

"All the staff are A1 in the caring and support that they provide.

"I feel that we are one family within The Homestead, the patients, the staff, relatives, and friends.

“Sheila is living with Alzheimer's but we are blessed that we have The Homestead to look after Sheila.

"I thank God every day for March 26, 1968.

"Life has been good to me, I have been blessed with Sheila."
