A wanted sex offender on the run in Oxfordshire is back in police custody.
Police launched a countywide manhunt for Andrew Gallagher, 52, after he was spotted in Crowmarsh Gifford, near Wallingford, on Sunday.
Gallagher was on the run after failing to sign the Sex Offenders' Register and was described by police as “dangerous”.
He was arrested by police in a village near Banbury at 2pm today and is currently in custody.
Police spokesman Victoria Brandon said no-one was injured in the opration.
Supt Amanda Pearson thanked members of the public who came forward following appeals for information in the Oxford Mail.
Gallagher was jailed for two years in 2007 after launching a campaign of harassment against a mother-of-two in Crowmarsh Gifford and being in possession of a handgun, bullets, chloroform, a dagger and duct tape.
He was released halfway through his sentence last July, but went missing five months later when he failed to sign the Sex Offenders' Register.
Gallacher will be returned to jail to serve the remainder of his sentence.
