Tributes have been paid to former Chipping Norton town councillor Graham Birks, who has died, aged 66.

Banbury-born Mr Birks moved to Chipping Norton in the mid-1960s, and was voted on to the council last August. His son Tim said: “He was delighted so many people had supported him.”

Fellow town councillor and friend Keith Greenwell said: “He cared deeply about the town and supported and promoted things that have, or are in the process of becoming, very successful.”

After working for printing firm AM International, he set up his own company, Appletree Press, in 1988, followed by KopyRite with his son in Chipping Norton.

When he was not busy working, Mr Birks enjoyed nothing more than entertaining people, organising social events in the town, including a pub quiz which ran for several years at the Crown and Cushion in High Street.
