Even the heavy snow did not deter determined British workers from protesting against the employment of a few hundred foreign workers instead of British ones.
It is true that if you are an EU national then you are entitled to work in any EU country.
However, equal opportunities should be taken into consideration.
This implies that any job should be advertised and given to those who have the right skills and experience.
The firm Total didn’t follow the equality rule and that’s why British workers had every right to protest – without allowing the BNP to turn a legitimate right into a racist festival.
We should remember, however, that British and other Western workers in the oil-rich Arab monarchies are given a very privileged status with wages higher than their colleagues of other nationalities – including Arabs who do exactly the same job.
