Our Oxford Mail photographers were out and about yesterday to capture the best pictures following the biggest snowfall since 2007.

And our readers also got their cameras out and sent in their most striking images to our picture desk.

Other stories from around the county included: Youngsters in Witney took advantage of a day off from school by arranging a mass snowball fight through an online social networking site.

Dozens of revellers turned the untouched snow off Thorney Leys, into a friendly impromptu battlefield.

The snowball fight had been arranged days before on Internet site Facebook in the expectation of heavy snowfall.

People were unable to give blood at the Civic Hall, in Portway, because National Blood Service staff were unable to get to the town.

In Cholsey, a three-hour speed awareness education event for commuters going to the railway station was cancelled.

The snow saw the cancellation of several clubs’ events across southern Oxfordshire.

In Didcot, a yoga class and ballroom dancing night did not go ahead. And in Abingdon, the local scrabble club called off their meeting.

Cherwell District Council’s one-stop shops in Bicester and Kidlington were closed due to snow yesterday. So far, Banbury’s job club at the Mill is due to open as usual at 11.30am today.
