A MAN has been remanded in custody pending psychiatric reports after he hurled a rock at a passing lorry on the A34.

Oxford Crown Court heard Timothy Wall, 26, hid behind the barrier of the dual carriageway at Botley, clutching rubble, before throwing a rock at a 44-tonne HGV last September, leaving the windscreen cracked. Alistair Grainger, prosecuting, said two passers-by heard smashing sounds and found Wall by the carriageway, muttering and carrying bits of rubble.

They tried to keep him at the scene while they called police, but Wall spat in the face of a special constable when officers arrived.

Wall, of Sutton, near Witney, admitted causing a danger to road users and common assault.

Judge Terence Maher remanded Wall in custody and adjourned sentencing to Monday, April 20, for a psychiatric report to be written. The judge said: “The way he behaved on this occasion is extremely worrying.”
