A TAXI driver has been found guilty of sexually assaulting women in his cab.

Baber Khan, 30, of Dashwood Road, in Rose Hill, Oxford, denied two counts of sexual assault by touching.

A retrial at Oxford Crown Court, ordered after a jury could not reach a verdict in December last year, found Khan guilty on both counts today.

The charges relate to two incidents in September 2007 and January 2008.

Khan, who worked for Royal Cars, was bailed by Judge Christopher Compston until sentencing on June 5.

Det Con Will Downey said: “On both occasions Khan abused his position as a taxi driver and while he was taking the women home he sexually assaulted them.

“This verdict is a fantastic result and all credit must be given to both victims for having the courage and tenacity to come forward and not only make the complaint but see it through to the end which would have been an extremely difficult and traumatic time.

“As a taxi driver, Khan was in a position of trust every time he went to work. Women should expect to feel safe and secure when catching a taxi, but Khan abused his role and exploited these victims’ vulnerability.

“This verdict means he will be added to the sex offenders register and not be able to work in a position of trust again.

“Thanks and appreciation must also go to the witnesses who came forward and the staff at Oxford County Council licensing agency. I would also like to thank Royal Cars for their assistance, which contributed towards today’s verdict. They are as keen as we are that their drivers are reliable and trustworthy.”
