ARTWORK from hundreds of the county’s schoolchildren has been displayed at an Oxford museum – all in the name of charity.

The Young Art Oxford 2009 exhibition saw more than 300 pictures on show at the University Museum of Natural History in Parks Road, in aid of Cancer Research UK’s studies into the genetic causes of cancer in children.

The exhibition, on Wednesday and yesterday, featured pieces from pupils at 18 Oxfordshire schools aged between four and 14.

Entries were chosen by Oxford author and illustrator Korky Paul, artist, teacher and author Sarah Simblet, and Dr Christopher Brown, director of the Ashmolean Museum.

Organiser Belinda Hanson said: “The children have created a vibrant mix of paintings, drawings and prints.

“Postcards and the works of art are for sale and all the money raised is in aid of Cancer Research UK.

“It is the second year we have held Young Art in Oxford. In 2008 the inaugural exhibition raised more than £4,500.”

The winner of the Reception to Year Three category was Kirsty McCulloch.

Hector Macdonald won the Year Four to Year Six group and Peter Blanshard scooped the Year Seven to Year Nine prize.

Young Art began 19 years ago in London. Since then, almost half a million pounds has been raised for Cancer Research UK.
