A FORMER Ministry of Defence worker has been awarded the Imperial Service Medal.

Martin Weir worked for 31 years keeping troops supplied across the world from Defence Storage and Distribution Agency in Bicester.

The Banbury town and district councillor was presented with the medal at Cherwell’s annual meeting. Mr Weir, who retired from the MoD last year, now works as a nightshift team leader for Sainsbury’s in Banbury.

He said: “It’s nice to be recognised for your service working for the MoD.

“I spent 31 years working in the public sector but now I’m doing so in a different way.”

Mr Weir helped supply soldiers with equipment during conflicts in the Falklands and the Middle East.

The ISM was first awarded in 1902 by Edward VII, and is presented to all those in the civil service who complete 25 untarnished years.
