PICNIC rugs carpeted the grounds of Grove Primary School as families turned out to enjoy a record breaking sandwich in the sunshine.
About 150 villagers took part in the alfresco event, organised by Care for the Family as part of National Family Week, on Bank Holiday Monday.
Thousands of adults and children at venues across the UK took part in a bid to set a Guinness World Record for the largest ever picnic.
Co-organiser Barbara Margett, 45, of Mayfield Avenue, Grove, said she had not heard if the record had been broken yet.
She said: “It was fantastic. The day started off wet but it turned out to be a beautiful day.
“We had a band playing for half an hour and then fun and games with all the families like throwing a water balloon and a tug of war. Even a woman in her 80s got involved. It was lovely.”
Pastor Paul John, of Grove’s Evangelical Church, said: “We wanted to encourage family life and encourage families to have fun together. It was one of the most successful events we have organised in terms of building bridges with families in the community.”
