A Swalcliffe man has raised thousands of pounds for a charity by ploughing fields.

Derek Blunn’s ploughing matches have become legendary and also helped raise more than £10,000 for Katharine House Hospice.

Participants came from miles around for the eighth annual match at Page’s Farm, Sibford Heath in March. The event raised £2,306 for the Adderbury-based hospice, making a total of £10,266 over the past eight years.

This year’s winner was Mary Davis, of Abergavenny.

Sarah Bidwell, the hospice’s community fundraiser, said: “This year, it will cost £2.4m to run our service, which is free to patients and families. Derek’s continued dedication is so much appreciated by everyone and we are extremely grateful to him for this latest donation.”
