BOSSES at Mini plant in Cowley have denied reports that production could start at one of its German plants alongside that in Cowley.

A report in the Independent on Sunday newspaper quoted Frank-Peter Arndt, head of car production at parent firm BMW as saying “We could imagine a German factory for the production of Mini-based models”.

But plant spokesman Angela Stangroom today insisted: “It’s not something we’re currently considering or need to consider.

“Oxford is and will remain the home of Mini and the same goes for our UK MINI Production Triangle.

“The current annual capacity of Oxford is around 240.000 units.

“In the medium term, as has already been reported several times, this could be increased to 260,000 units.

“We’ve already announced that models based on the two new Mini Coupé and Roadster variants, which were premiered at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and which will be built at Oxford, will fully utilise the plant’s production capacity.”
