The Thames Valley Antiques Dealers Association’s sumptuous annual fair takes place at Radley College from October 30 to November 1.

Some of the faces of TVADA members will seem familiar to readers, following the BBC’s new programme Trust the Dealer. Among those featured so far is William Clegg of The Country Seat (Huntercombe).

I have often previewed their Whitefriars Glass exhibitions for this magazine. As well as seeing examples, in their glorious light-reflecting colour, you can learn more about that great British firm from William himself.

He will be among the guest speakers appearing each day. Another one is yours truly and I have called my talk, ‘Every Antique Tells a Story’, the theme of my features for Limited Edition magazine in 2007.

Full details of the talks are posted on www.tvada.co.uk.

Joining the TVADA members are invited dealers from other regions.

One of those exhibiting for the first time is Clico Kingsbury of the Dadbrook Gallery, near Thame, whose Picasso print exhibition I previewed in August.

She will be bringing some examples of the work of the Chinese artist, Qu Lei lei, who had a one man show in the Ashmolean in 2005. Qu Lei lei was one of the founders of the Stars Art Movement, the first Chinese contemporary art movement.

Clico will be bringing one of his huge ‘Here and Now’ hand paintings.

Fair organiser, Jan Hicks also highlighted one of the rarest exhibits at the fair: “Great interest has been aroused by the square pianoforte that Andrew Lancaster of Music Room Antiques is bringing to the fair.

“Made in 1790 by Frederick Beck, the mahogany piano is designed to stand in the centre of a room.

“When the lid is lifted a hinged shelf folds down to form a rear music rest, thus enabling three other musicians seated behind the piano to play in a quartet.”

£5 admits 2 people, (children free) however, readers of The Oxford Times can get in free with a copy of this feature.

For those of you who have not visited Radley College, it is an opportunity to admire the 18th-century Manor House set in grounds designed by Capability Brown. More details are available on tvada.co.uk
