A jury in the trial of a man accused of trying to stab his ex-partner to death has retired to begin its deliberations.

Benjamin Thompson, 26, has been on trial at Oxford Crown Court for the past 10 days after denying attempting to murder Harriet de Raeve, 22, at the home they shared in Hurst Street, East Oxford, in April.

The trial heard Ms de Raeve suffered three stab wounds and a knife was embedded in her chest which almost pierced her heart.

Thompson told the jury he stabbed Ms de Raeve in self-defence after being stabbed first.

Justice John Saunders finished summing up the case this morning and sent to jury out to reach a verdict.
