FAMILY and friends have paid their respects to a Didcot-based bomb disposal expert killed in Afghanistan.
The funeral of Olaf Schmid took place at Truro Cathedral this morning.
Staff Sgt Schmid, 30, served with 11 Explosive Ordnance Disposal Regiment, based at Vauxhall Barracks.
He had defused 64 bombs on his five-month tour of duty, but the 65th killed him in Helmand Province on October 31.
Tributes from Staff Sgt Schmid's widow Christina featured in the service, which was led by the Dean of Truro, the Very Reverend Dr Christopher Hardwick.
