A driver who died in a crash on the M40 at the weekend has been named.

David Warters, 41, died after his white Ford Transit van was involved in a collision with a lorry on the southbound carriageway on Saturday at 5.30pm.

The crash occurred between Junction Six at Lewknor and Junction Five at Stokenchurch.

Mr Warters was from Macclesfield, Cheshire, and a spokesman for his family issued a statement which said: “One of the good guys, David will be greatly missed by all his family, friends and colleagues.

“David was an active man who was popular amongst his family, friends and colleagues.

"He was a reserved person but with a great sense of humour, content to get on with life and make the best of what was available to him.

"He also had a great work ethic. Whatever he was doing, he would always think of others before himself and never had a bad word to say about anybody.

"After leaving school he trained as a chef, but later joined the army. After many years in the army he left, but while working he joined the Territorial Army and later the sea cadets.

“Outside of work David had a love of walking in Scotland, motorbikes, his nephews, niece and his dogs. David was a great uncle and loved spending quality time with the kids."

A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and released on bail until February 15.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact PC Joe Clamp at Bicester Roads Policing on 08458 505505 or the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555111.
