Plans to replace the governing body of Oxford School, in Glanville Road, have been approved by the Government.

Oxfordshire County Council applied for an interim executive board in September and has now been told they can install a new board, ousting the existing 15-strong board.

The new IEB will consist of two county council officers, an ex-county council officer and two former governors who resigned earlier this year.

The move has been criticised by members of the now-disbanded board and by the National Union of Teachers.

Gawain Little, Oxfordshire president of the NUT, said: “This decision has nothing to do with education and nothing to do with what parents want for their children.

“It is an absolute disgrace and I think the council needs to explain itself to the people of East Oxford.”
