HOORAY for positive news about the Westgate Centre.
The saga over its redevelopment has run on and on and on.
The city’s shoppers – and traders – want to see real progress made on the site, and sooner rather than later.
Currently, there is a general consensus that Oxford lets itself down in the retail stakes.
True, we have the delights of independent traders and the Covered Market to fall back on, but we must accept the reality that people want to shop at big name stores and in state-of-the art shopping centres.
The city centre needs to be as much for Oxfordshire families as for tourists.
If the redevelopment proves a success, and there is every reason to believe it will now, it will help bring more people into the city, and that will benefit all of us.
