Green city councillors chose International Earth Day to launch their countdown to local elections.
They flew a flag from Oxford Town Hall yesterday to promote environmental awareness.
The Greens hold seven seats on the council, which is run by a Liberal Democrat-Green alliance. They hope to continue the power-sharing arrangement after Thursday, May 2.
Cllr Mike Woodin could become deputy leader of the council, if the Lib Dems and Greens retain control, and he is re-elected.
He said: "I think we have had a real impact on the quality of life in Oxford since 2000 and I hope we can carry on doing that.
"We are fielding candidates for all 48 seats." Cllr Woodin said one of the Greens' major achievements had been doubling the amount of recycling in Oxford over the past two years.
He added: "The response on the doorstep so far has been very positive."
The Greens have pledged in their manifesto, Turning Oxford Around, to use their influence to achieve:
Sound council management
More affordable housing
Citywide traffic reduction
No privatisation of services.
