Cherry Red Records Hellenic League: North Leigh 0, Gloucester Utd 0

In front of a crowd of more than 200, Saturday's top-of-the-table clash lived up to expectations, despite the lack of goals.

And it was Premier Division leaders Gloucester who finished the happier, the point consolidating their lead at the top over the west Oxfordshire side.

North Leigh created enough chances to have won decisively, hitting the woodwork three times, having two efforts cleared off the line, and missing a penalty midway through the first half.

A Gary Murphy snap-shot came back off the crossbar after ten minutes, and Craig Pearman's angled drive hit the side-netting as North Leigh swept forward time and again in the early stages.

When Andy McCabe was upended in the box by Gloucester defender Kevin Lee, visitors' keeper Tom King dived low to his right to save Matt Hendra's spot kick.

The high tempo continued after the break, and a fierce free kick from Gary Murphy was deflected on to the crossbar with the Gloucester keeper beaten.

As North Leigh threw caution to the wind, Gloucester went close on the break, and Mark Thomas had a goalbound effort cleared off the line by Murphy.

At the other end, arms were aloft claiming a last-minute goal for Sean Bott, only for a desperate lunge by Gloucester skipper Andy Pritchett to clear off the goal line and deny North Leigh a vital victory.
