A last-minute rescue bid by the members of Moseley may scupper Firoz Kassam's attempts to buy the struggling Midlands rugby club.

Firoz KassamOxford United's chairman is keen to bring top-class rugby to the Kassam Stadium, and last week it seemed his bid to buy the National League Division 1 club would succeed.

But I now understand Kassam is not prepared to pay more than £150,000 for Moseley, who are said to be in debt by at least that amount.

Now a group of members have banded together in an attempt to raise that sum in an attempt to keep the club in Birmingham.

With one or two of Moseley's creditors becoming increasingly impatient, the members have until the end of this week to come up with the money.

It is thought that the Moseley's owners, Moseley Ventures Ltd, would favour a deal that kept the club in Birmingham.

Another option would be to make his stadium to home of London Wasps, whose plan to move to Wycombe Wanderers has been vetoed by the local council, over a legal clause saying that only football can be played at the Adams Park ground.

Wasps are appealing against that decision, but if it fails, they could well seek a relocation at Oxford.
