Hot cross buns were on the menu at two church events in Abingdon on Good Friday.

Nearly 20 children attended the annual Hot Cross Bun service at St Michael's Church in Park Road. The Market Place was also full for a service organised by the Church in Abingdon.

Children were given palm leaves and cards to be opened on Easter Sunday about the story of Easter and its significance in the church calendar.

The service was taken by pastoral assistant Cicely Bilverstone who said: "This is the fifth year we have held the special Hot Cross Bun service and it is very popular with the young children who are told about the reason for the cross on the bun."

"Parents too are interested and they are allowed a bun or two."

More than 300 people gathered in Abingdon town centre for a special Good Friday worship and witness in the Market Place arranged by the Church in Abingdon group of churches.
