Charles Chick A highly skilled Wantage craftsman who will be remembered for his skill at repairing intricate items has passed away.
Charles Chick, known as Charlie, died in Wantage Hospital on Tuesday, March 26. His age is unknown.
Before retiring, Mr Chick worked as a tool-maker and metal engineer for the engineering company Nalder and Nalder, which is now Wagon Automotive in Challow. Peter James, owner of James Heating, in Wallingford Road, Wantage, said that he had known Mr Chick for 50 years.
Mr James said: "He will be remembered in the town for his intricate work, which he happily did for anyone who asked.
"He was a skilled craftsman of the old school who could do anything from sharpening the blades of a lawnmower to fixing the most complicated of machines."
Mr James recalled that he would often make components that could not be obtained from modern engineering companies.
Mr Chick was married to Valerie, who died some years ago. He leaves one daughter, Tina.
