Thame United picked themselves up from their weekend FA Cup exit with a solid performance at Wexham Park in Ryman League Division 1 last night, drawing 1-1 with Slough Town.

Mick Swaysland It was the visitors who forced the early pressure with Mark Jones shooting wide after ten minutes from Wayne Cort's pass. Nine minutes later Slough nearly broke the deadlock but Clement James's shot hit a post and rebounded to safety, before Mick Swaysland volleyed over the home side's bar.

The same player should have done much better in the 27th minute but Slough's ex-Reading keeper Steve Mautone made a good save.

But Swaysland was not to be denied with a good finish from Cort's backheel giving Thame a 34th minute lead.

It followed some excellent approach play from Chris Potter.

Minutes later, skipper Martin Brown headed just over the bar from a Jones free kick.

But on the stroke of half time Slough equalised through Michael Bartley after Thame carelessly gave the ball away in midfield.

Early in the second half, the home side had a chance to go ahead but Veli Hakki's shot curled wide.

Thame suffered a setback in the 58th minute when they lost influential defender Andy Williams with a gashed eye.

United reorganised and continued to press forward but the home side, who are struggling in the league, always looked capable of scoring on the break.

Potter and Justin Lee both had efforts saved by the inspired Mautone and United had a great chance to win the game deep into injury time.

Cort provided Mark Jones with a chance but he delayed his shot and allowed Mautone to smother his weak effort, as Thame stretched their unbeaten league run to ten games.
