Justin Summers, the Chipping Norton Town player who suffered an horrific injury in a recent home game with Witney Academy, is out of hospital after undergoing a successful operation to fix compound breaks to his tibia and fibula.

Justin Summers, on the mend after his horrific break, receives a visit from Witney Academy physio Bob HaydonThe 25-year-old suffered the terrible double fracture after a freak accident during his side's 2-1 victory in the Hellenic League game, which was abandoned because of the injury, although the result stands.

Chippy chairman Nigel Harrison said: "It was a tragic accident. He had just come out of local football, and was just getting to grips with the Hellenic League."

Manager Alan Dore, meanwhile, expressed his gratitude to Witney Academy players and officials, who co-operated fully when the incident occured.

George Frizzell, the father of an Academy player, is a paramedic with the RAF at Brize Norton, and he was on hand to help physio Bob Haydon when the accident happened.

"The Witney boys were absolutely tremendous," Dore said. "I would like to personally thank them all for what they did, especially Bob and George, who were both fantastic and tried to help keep Justin as comfortable as possible while we were waiting for the ambulance."

A collection for Summers was held after the game, and the players and officials from both sides donated over £150 and there are also plans to hold a function to raise more money for him.

Haydon said: "That lad was incredibly brave and. He's come through it and hopefully he'll play football again."

Summers, who played for Hanborough before making the step up to the Hellenic League, said: "If Bob and George weren't there, I don't know what would have happened.

"I never had a chance to thank them, but if it was not for them, I think it would have been a lot worse."
